Cup and Sealing Film Compatibility

Quick answer

Sealing film bonds to some container materials and not others, and each film works within its own temperature range. The Phoenixes compatibility table below matches PP, paper, PS, PET and PLA containers to PET-ES Film, ES Plastic Sealing Film, Plastic Sealing Film (Transparent) and Kraft Paper Sealing Film (GPE).

Use the table as an initial reference. Final sealing performance should be confirmed with your actual container, film and machine.

Match the film to the container

Sealing film is not interchangeable. Each film type bonds to some container materials and not others, and each works within its own temperature range. Use the wrong pairing and the seal fails — it peels, or the container distorts.

The table below is Phoenixes' compatibility reference. Use it for an initial assessment; the final result should be confirmed with your actual container, film and machine together.

Sealing temperature by film type

Each film type has its own working temperature range. These are reference ranges — the correct setting for your production has to be found by testing, because it also depends on your container and machine.

Film typeReference temperature range
PET-ES140–160°C
ES130–150°C
Plastic Sealing Film (Transparent)160–180°C
Kraft Paper Sealing Film (GPE)140–160°C
These are reference ranges and require testing.
Please use the actual container and film to confirm the setting rather than relying on these figures alone.

Sealing film material effects

In addition to compatibility, different sealing film materials can create different effects and may suit different product needs.

Plastic Sealing Film (Transparent) — shows the drink through the lid.

Matte Finish Sealing Film — reduces glare, which photographs better.

Kraft Paper Sealing Film — an opaque, natural-looking lid surface.

Precut Film — individual film pieces for the PH-989H Precut Film model rather than a roll.

The material effect is a separate consideration from compatibility. Confirm that the film suits your container first, then choose the effect that fits your product.

Ordering

Order quantities, roll specifications and pricing depend on the film type and your requirement, so ask Phoenixes to quote against your actual container and volume. If you are moving to a new container material, request samples and test them before committing to a production order.

When the available information is not enough to confirm the result, such as with a new container, unusual cup or material not listed in the table, please provide the container or a sample so Phoenixes can help confirm compatibility and the suitable setting.

Tell us your container, we will match the film

Send your container material, rim diameter and machine model. Phoenixes will confirm the film and temperature to test, and provide samples.

Frequently asked questions

Which sealing film works with a PP cup?
According to the Phoenixes reference table, PP cups can use PET-ES Film, ES Plastic Sealing Film with an easy-peel effect, and Plastic Sealing Film (Transparent) with a tight bond. Kraft Paper Sealing Film (GPE) requires testing with the PP cup. Final performance must be confirmed with the actual container, film and machine.
What film seals a PE-coated paper cup?
PE-coated paper cups can use PET-ES Film, ES Plastic Sealing Film with an easy-peel effect, and Kraft Paper Sealing Film (GPE) with a tight bond. Plastic Sealing Film (Transparent) is not compatible. Confirm the result with an actual test.
Can I seal a PET or PLA cup?
According to the reference table, PET-ES Film is the only listed option marked compatible with an easy-peel effect for PET / PLA cups. ES Plastic Sealing Film, Plastic Sealing Film (Transparent) and Kraft Paper Sealing Film (GPE) are marked not compatible. Always test with the actual cup and film.
What temperature should I seal at?
It depends on the film type and must be confirmed by testing. Reference ranges are PET-ES Film 140–160°C, ES Plastic Sealing Film 130–150°C, Plastic Sealing Film (Transparent) 160–180°C, and Kraft Paper Sealing Film (GPE) 140–160°C. Do not set production from these figures alone; test with the actual container and machine.
What if my container is not in the table?
It needs further assessment. Phoenixes will evaluate the actual container or sample rather than assume the result. Provide a sample so compatibility and the suitable temperature can be tested correctly.
